City: Encanto
Located in the southeastern part of the city of San Diego, near
Lemon Grove and National City, Encanto enjoys a varied topography
of rolling hills and natural canyons. It also enjoys some of the
best views and lowest housing costs in the city.
The original name of the area was Klauber Park after the original
owner, Abraham Klauber. However, his daughter renamed the area
Encanto means enchantment.
It is a low-density residential community served by the trolley
station located near Euclid Avenue and Market Street. The population
is ethnically diverse with strong community ties and involvement.
There are in-fill development opportunities and ongoing revitalization
efforts. Historic murals adorn the walls and flowers and trees
enhance the street landscape.
Encanto is part of the area known as the Encanto Neighborhoods
including Chollas View, Lincoln Park, Emerald Hills, Valencia
Park, South Encanto, Broadway Heights and Alta Vista. Lincoln
Park takes its name from Lincoln High, named for Abraham Lincoln.
The area is known for its parks and numerous public schools. Many
of he properties in this area have stunning views.
Valencia Park's high point offers a 360-degree view of the City
of San Diego. The area is a mix of industrial and medium high-density
residences. Emerald Hills is known for its outstanding views.
The neighborhood takes its name from the Emerald Hills Country
Club established in 1959.
South Encanto's homes are nestled in among steep canyons and
rolling hills. There is still some residential land available
for development in this area. Broadway Heights is located in the
northeastern part of the Encanto Neighborhoods. There are both
single-family homes and some heavy commercial developments in
the area. The highest point in the neighborhood is 400 feet over
sea level giving it a commanding view of the city.
