Carmel Valley is a relatively new bedroom community, built since 1980. Landmarks include the top-rated Torrey Pines High School and a large, new shopping center, Del Mar Highland Town Center. The community is only partly built-out, with new-home construction ongoing for upscale townhouses and houses in the $300,000-plus range. Close to Del Mar beaches and the Del Mar Race Track.

Lots of road construction occurring to open access to the business and light-industrial area of Sorrento Valley.
